Badges in Knola
A picture anyone can copy. A badge anyone can check.
In Knola a badge isn’t an image file. Follow it from the moment your student finishes to the moment someone checks it.
Your student
The moment they finish
No forms, no waiting for you. When they finish the last lesson (and pass the exam, if there is one), Knola sends their certificate and badge.
- Sent automatically, in your name
- Their certificate as a PDF, and the badge
- A link to their own page to keep and share
Your certificate is ready
Well done, Amara. You finished Wellbeing at Work.
Your student
A certificate in your name, with your badge
Your business, your logo and your colours, with the student’s name and what they finished. Its own number and QR code are printed on it, so a printed copy can be checked too.
- Your wording, signature and style
- CPD hours and the exam, if you want them
- A number and QR code on every copy
Your student
Their own page, to keep and share
Every student gets a page for their certificate. From it they add it to LinkedIn, post it, download it, or put the badge on their own website.
- Add to LinkedIn in one click
- Post on LinkedIn, X, Facebook or WhatsApp
- Download the PDF and the badge, or copy an embed code

One click to know it’s real
An employer, a client or a professional body opens the link or scans the QR code. The page checks your records there and then: who earned it, what it took, and whether it’s still valid.
- Checked against your records, not what someone typed
- Shows revoked or expired straight away
- A signed Open Badges 3.0 credential underneath

Why it matters
- Proof beats a PDFAnyone can make a PDF that says anything. A check page from your records can’t be faked, so your certificate means something to the people who see it.
- Every share is free marketingEach badge your students post links back to your school, in front of people just like them.
- Ready for CPD and complianceWhat it took, the CPD hours, an expiry date and renewal reminders: the record a professional body or an employer asks for.
- Students come backA badge that expires brings them back to renew, and a reminder lands in their inbox before it does.
Why give badges with Knola
Most course platforms give a PDF certificate and leave badges to a separate service. In Knola the badge is part of the course, so it knows what your student actually did.

Open Badges 3.0
Built on the open standard, not locked to us
- Each badge is a W3C Verifiable Credential (Open Badges 3.0), issued in your school’s name.
- Signed two ways, as a JWT and with a Data Integrity proof (eddsa-rdfc-2022), so standard tools can check it.
- Your school has its own issuer identity (did:web) and a public key anyone can fetch.
- Revoking is public too: a status list marks a revoked badge as revoked, everywhere it is checked.
- The signed credential is written into the badge’s PNG, so the file itself can be checked.
The signed credential below is written into this badge’s PNG.

}Questions
- Is the badge maker free?
- Yes. Design as many badges as you like and download them as PNGs. No sign-up and no card.
- Do you keep my logo?
- No. Your logo and words stay in your browser. Nothing you make here is uploaded to us.
- What size is the download?
- A 1000 × 1033 PNG with a transparent background: big enough for a website, a slide or a printed certificate.
- What is a digital badge?
- A small picture that shows someone finished a course or earned a skill, backed by a record that says who earned it, what for and who gave it. A picture alone can be copied by anyone; the record is what makes it worth something.
- How do badges work in Knola?
- You design the badge on your course’s certificate. When a student finishes the course (and passes the exam, if it has one), Knola gives them the certificate and the badge, emails them, and makes a page for it that anyone can open to check it is real. Students can add it to LinkedIn in one click.
- What does the check page show?
- Who earned it, the course, who issued it, when, whether it is still valid, and what it took, from your course’s own records: the lessons finished, the exam passed and the CPD hours. It has a QR code and changes at once if you renew or revoke the badge.
- What is Open Badges 3.0?
- The open standard for digital credentials, built on the W3C Verifiable Credentials model. Knola signs each badge it gives, so software can check who issued it and that nothing has been changed, and publishes a revocation list so a revoked badge shows as revoked.
- Can students add the badge to LinkedIn?
- They can post the picture from here. Given from Knola, they add it to their LinkedIn profile as a credential in one click, with your company page linked, and every share shows a preview that links back to the check page.
- Do badges cost extra in Knola?
- Certificates are on every Knola plan. Badges come with Knola Pro.
